Friday notes

First, mom:    she is in the hospital and on morphine, so no pain.  This is such a relief, as she has been suffering terribly.  The doctors have not yet figured out what is wrong with her, so testing continues.   Mom, understandably, is very very tired.  Because of the morphine (or perhaps because of whatever is wrong with her) mom’s mind is not as sharp as usual.   This seems like a good thing right now, as why have her worrying on top of everything else?
We out-of-town sibs are in constant discussion about when to go up there.   Right now she is peaceful and pain free…not to mention in a place where care abounds.   So do we go to the hospital?  Or do we wait until she is home when she might have more need of us?   At present we are in "wait and see" mode.  And we all call her a couple of times a day which she is very much enjoying.

In the meantime, my weekend houseguest has arrived.  I drove to Chicago yesterday to pick her up at Midway.  Ran into a nasty traffic jam on I-94 in Indiana, but that only lasted about 20 minutes, so soon I was chugging along.   And then the cell phone rang.  It was Ticia saying she had missed her plane and the next one wasn’t for four hours.  Hmmmmmmmm.    Go back or continue on?   I thought about that rough patch of traffic.   Well, I’m not going back and have to do that again, so onward;  up the Skyway and into Chicago…right to the University of Chicago for a couple of delightful hours walking around their lovely campus; lunch at the Olympus (Athenian omelet, yummy);  and to the campus bookstore where I purchased a size 18 months UC sweatshirt.  With both of her parents being alumni,  it seems like Lia should be advertising a little, don’t you think?

Ticia hadn’t been sure what time the new flight arrived at Midway, so I headed over there, thinking an hour’s wait wouldn’t be so bad. As always,  I had a book in my purse.  (One of my biggest fears in life is that I will be stuck someplace with nothing to read.)   I checked the airport monitor and saw those dreaded words…delayed.   And then delayed some more.  AND, delayed again.   Eventually, this flight that was due at 3:15 arrived…at 5:30.    That’s 6:30 our time back in Michigan, so by the time we arrived home, it was 8:30 and we were starving.  Fixed a quick dinner;  drank an entire bottle of wine and talked until 11:00 pm; then off to bed.

Today we are picking up Noel and heading to Saugatuck, MI for some beachtown shopping.   It’s lovely to have Ticia here.  Girlfriend time is invaluable.

Glad to hear that things are going better with your mom.  Drugs are good and were invented for a reason!

There\’s just something about being with your GF, no matter your age.  It\’s fun to be able to digress and giggle about silly things, and a bottle of wine doesn\’t hurt!  Enjoy your weekend!!

After what happened to Tom, he was in a lot of pain too, I would hop on a plane and go see your Mom.  Give her moral support.  Hope everything goes well with you.  Connie

Hi Barbara, I hope the doctors figure out what\’s causing your mum\’s pain very soon. When was the last time you saw her? I just read Connie\’s comment below and maybe you should go up and see her because you just never know.  I will be praying that she gets better very soon.
I didn\’t get to go to U Chicago when I was in the city last Fall but I would like to visit that campus very much.  So many of the journal articles I ready are written by professors from that school that it would be nice to wander around the campus one day.
Thanks for stopping by my space and lots of positive thoughts for your mom.  Enjoy the weekend with your friend.  God bless!

    Hello Barb!
Yes!  It is true about King Tom.  We are all grieving.  I hope your mother improves.  It is tough being away from her.  Your weekend sounds like it is going to be really cool.  Nothing like time with our best friends.  Enjoy yourselves.

Hi Barb – I\’m sorry to hear about your mom.  Being in Coeyman\’s I\’m thinking she must be at Albany Med?  Or possibly Samaritan?  Am I right in thinking one of your sister\’s is with her?  You can be sure she is in my thoughts and prayers.
The weather here is a bit gloomy and rainy, but due to brighten up over the weekend.  Hopefully the sun will shine on your mom\’s feeling better.  So much nicer to be awake and alert with the sunshine.

Keep us all posted Barb and have a nice time with your girlfriend.
    Deb

Hi Barb, I don\’t know any more about Tom\’s death than what\’s been written in his blog or his friend Michael\’s.  Sorry, I wish I knew more.
Hope your Mom\’s health improves.  I know how hard it is to deal with a parents failing health.    Enjoy your weekend.  Cindy

Just stopping in from UpNorthCindy\’s blog…I\’ve been wondering if perhaps King Tom\’s medication was not correct and that maybe he had an allergic reaction or overdose???  This is just my opinion/thoughts; nobody has heard anything more though.

I\’m glad your mother is pain free and I hope they find out the problem soon.
It is tough to decide what to do, at times like these.
I\’m glad you and your guest could relax with some talk and Vino at the end of that long day!
