Thinking about other things

First, a very happy birthday to Don, who celebrates his 71st today.   We’re going to try dinner out, a first since I’ve been home.   Nothing fancy, just a small restaurant overlooking the river.   Their perch is excellent.

I’ve been doing more, although when that ‘more’ is ‘too much’ my body is quick to tell me.   I’m reading even more than usual, and that is a lot.   Laurie King just had a new book come out.   If you haven’t read the Sherlock Holmes/Mary Russell books,  and if you like mysteries, you might want to try them.  Fun, fast reads.

The weather is distinctly autumnal,  40s at night, 60s in the daytime.   One thing I am not doing is getting the garden ready for winter.   Don will help me with that soon, and Diana has said she will help when she and Aurelia visit next month.

I’ve hired a cleaning service to come in once a week for a general clean-through.  They start next week.   This is a local service named Molly Maids.   I had used them once before, many years ago, when Noel needed some help (between pregnancy and Em being in the body cast).   We were all very pleased with their cleaning, so they were the logical choice to get me through the next few months.   Heck, I may end up keeping them.

Most phone calls are automated political ones.   Do the candidates truly not realize how annoying this is????    At this point, I like neither candidate.   And there,  don’t I just sound like the grumpy old woman I’ve become.  Ha!

What else am I thinking about?   Ah, yes:  food.   My diet, already pretty good, is now even better, as I eliminate even more fat, etc.   Trying to follow the heart diet, although I’m aware with every bite that nutritionists and the medical community in general change their minds often about what the ideal diet is.   Oh well,   just doing the best I can,  trying to make sense of it all.

A friend of Diana’s recently posted on Facebook that he was turning 39, as if that were the last good year one had available.   hahahahaha         Truly, I would not want to be that young again.    In fact,   70 is a very good age.    Each decade has its strengths, its weaknesses.    But I haven’t had a bad one yet.   How lucky is that?     I’m still on the right side of the grass, and that’s all I need for today to be a good, good day.
