Is that the same as a rut? I hope not, but sometimes I do wonder. It’s been cold….only 37 this morning, so I didn’t walk. Don says one of the women showed up at the door as he was heading out to men’s coffee; he told her I was still in bed (at 8:00 a.m.), which I was: yes! Cup of coffee in one hand, book in the other, I was happily snuggled down for an hour until the house warmed up. It’s now 60, so I probably will go out for at least a short walk. Maybe.
Friend Janice’s husband is supposed to make it out of Pennsylvania today; fingers crossed. That was quite a storm; hope any from that area reading this are ok.
I just came back from my weekly grocery shop. I ‘only’ spent $120, so you know I’ve forgotten something. I remember when I was first married (1962) and $15 a week covered our groceries; and we were eating well…lamb chops, steak, etc. The only meat I bought today was a rack of spareribs, and yet I managed to run up that bill. Somehow, though, the feds decided that there was no increase of cost of living, so our Social Security checks will remain unchanged from 2015. I wonder if any of those people have ever grocery shopped???
We’ve had three pelicans on the lake for the past week: two brown, one a glorious white! Speculation is that it was too cold on the gulf, so they came this little bit inland. Love seeing them whatever the reason. Companion bird is a cormorant.

As to the ‘holding pattern’…..life here is pretty much the same day to day. It’s the houseguests and the special events that change that. Our Saturday morning coffee, for instance, had a guest organist who played a medley of “Phantom of the Opera” tunes; that was fun. I’m waiting to talk to my brother to find out when he and Debbie will be coming down; next month we’ll visit Lois and Tom in Fort Pierce, and I just learned our old MI neighbors will be down in early February. These diversions are the real stuff of life to me. And yet, there’s a beauty to quiet days and a good library, too. I am content.
