Baby, it’s cold outside!

Well, it’s 57 degrees, but for Florida in late March that IS cold.   Usually I walk around the lake at 8:00 a.m.;  today I may wait a bit.

Don has men’s coffee this morning.  It’s a weekly group that mostly eats donuts and chats…a nice opportunity for the men to get to know one another.  There is also a short meeting each week. This group does some nice things for our park:   maintain a tool room, where anyone can borrow tools for projects around the home or whatever;   and last year they bought and installed benches around the park.   Go, men!

There is a women’s group, too, but it’s monthly and much more formal with programs and fussy decorations.  I’ve tried it, but that is not my thing any more.

I was thinking about my mother last week when what would have been her 99th birthday passed.   She had so much going for her….and managed to ruin it by being a hater and a yeller. (I vowed that after she died I would never let anyone yell at me again, and I haven’t.)   She alienated so many people, and when she was old and confined to home, that really came back to haunt her.   I remember how lonely she was those last years.  My small attempt to cheer her consisted of weekly letters.   She did enjoy them, I think, and it was a way for her to know what was going on with our family out in the Midwest.  It also gave her some topics of conversation for our phone calls, instead of the ‘you don’t know how it is’ talk she always flung at us.    Sad and what a waste.  There’s an object lesson in there.

On to more cheerful things.  Our bridge group has miraculously managed to play two weeks in a row…and we’re looking good for this week, too.  Last week I was high scorer..the week before low.   Don’t really care, as I love the game and we are a relaxed, fun group.      Tonight I’ll go to the clubhouse with Don to play a form of poker.   I’ve never been a gambler so am surprised by how much I enjoy that, too.   Of course we only bet ten cents!

Well, time to get dressed and start my day.   Chilly out there or not!
