Life expectancy

This isn’t even remotely Christmasy, but I just read in the paper that the life expectancy in Florida has gone down a few years. The reason for this is the opioid crisis. I think every state in our country has experienced the same problem, but I hadn’t realized it had reached the point that it could affect average lifespan.  This is pretty scary stuff.

I’d like to say it’s a moral issue, but it’s become bigger than that. This really is something the government has to figure out how to deal with. As I’m saying that, I’m looking at our government and how dysfunctional it is. It is hard not to feel discouraged.

Remember when Reagan was president and Nancy Reagan so famously said “just say no.” How naïve that seemed, and of course it didn’t work at all, but so many of us hoped it would make a little bit of difference at least. Now naïve sounds refreshing. I swore I’d never be one of those old people looks back at the “good old days” but truly, sometimes it’s hard not to.
