Inauguration

Since I was a very young child, I was aware the inauguration of a new president was an essential and joyful event. The smooth transition from one administration to the next was necessary to our country’s peace and well being. Frankly, we took it for granted. How I wish we could still.

But this year, the anxiety about what will happen next week is enormous. The current president has not backed off from his false claims that he actually won; he continues to invite his followers to revolt; and in general, he is doing everything he can to obstruct. I am so shocked by all this; so saddened.

And I was here in the 1960s, when it appeared our world was imploding; riots, protests, assassinations. It was terrifying. Yet, even then, we managed to change presidents without all this treasonous and threatening behavior.

God watch over us. Grant us a peaceful week, a peaceful start to the new administration.
