Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza—-they’re all about light: bringing it in to help us get through these long, dark nights. and oh how long and dark they are. Sunset here is before five p.m. So, although i don’t miss the heat of summer, I sure do miss the lingering evenings.
I don’t do much holiday decorating any more, although I went to extremes with that when the children were still at home, and then for a while when the grands lived just down the block. Now, it’s rare for anyone to come; I can’t, in fact, remember the last time I saw one of my children for a holiday. This year, however, will be blessedly different as I will have two of the ‘children,’ a son-in-law, and two grandchildren. BLISS!
Some of our neighbors have outdoor light displays which cheer up the neighborhood considerably. We have a lighted wreath on the porch, but that’s about it outside. I’ve done a bit more indoors and have been enjoying doing that.
