One full year

Those of us who are already old can hardly believe that we’ve lost an entire year of our lives to this plague that has swept the world and changed everyone’s life; everyone’s everything.

But here we are. It was just at this time last year that we were told no more bridge club; that we cancelled my birthday luncheon; that we could not go see a movie we’d been waiting for. And forget about the fact we knew we couldn’t see our grandchildren for the forseeable future.

At first our governor put us into a three month lock down. At that time, it was the longest in the country and none of us could even imagine being confined for so long. June? we asked…JUNE?? Now I just laugh at that naivete! Because we not only survived that, we made it through twelve long months. Books and puzzles and way too much coffee. I know a lot of people who hit the wine pretty hard, but I’m not a drinker, so that wasn’t one of my coping mechanisms. While we could still be outdoors, it wasn’t quite as difficult, but oh, my, the winter has been something else.

It’s freeing to have received both shots of the vaccine….not free, exactly, but a big step in the right direction. And it’s 70 degrees here today, so I’ve been out pruning shrubs. Sheer delight, that!

Hope you are finding some joy and hope, too.
